DELETE—Look who's getting old

by Brittany Geragotelis

Once a week, my guest blogger (who shall remain nameless...okay, not nameless...let's call her Ms. Sassy Pants. Sassy for short) stops by to share all the things in her life that deserve a big, fat DELETE. Anyhoo, her majesty is back and this week she's sick of getting older. Check out what she had to say and then come up with a few DELETES of your own.

Simply put, I ain't getting any younger. And with the celebration of my (fill in the blank; a lady never ages and tells) birthday this past month, I began to realize just how OLD I'm getting. And that deserves a hefty DELETE.

So here are a few things to add to the "you know you're getting old when" list....
Songs you grew up to are now featured on the oldies station on Pandora radio. DELETE.
You start getting unsolicited issues of Prevention magazine. Uh, I'm still a Cosmo girl, thank you very much. DELETE.
You start to get spam emails from singles sites specializing in the 40 and over crowd...Newsflash Mr. Sensitivo, I'm not 40, so stop pushing it on me. DELETE.
People start calling you Ma'am. DELETE.
People at the beauty counter start offering you restorative as opposed to preventative creams...or just start offering you anti-wrinkle creams in general. DELETE.
People you went to high school with now have kids in college...now granted, where I come from, we start breeding in our teens so that isn't SUCH a stretch. DELETE.
Your body parts have fallen victim to gravity and now you need a sling for the girls...as a teen, we called it a bra, but now it's become a safety harness. DELETE.
Hair (the horror) and clothing styles (high-waisted jeans) from high school are making a comeback. DELETE.
You have to go to the salon to get a color "touch up" every four weeks in order to cover your natural "highlights"--a.k.a. gray hairs. DELETE.
Everything starts to crack when you get out of bed or stand up. DELETE.
You suddenly have to get up to pee more than once during the night. DELETE.
Forgetting people's names...but that can just be becuse I'm self absorbed. DELETE.

Whoever said age is just a number or a state of mind needs to be DELETED. We all know it's about what you look like on the outside that really counts. See you next week kiddies.

DELETE--A life without chocolate

by Brittany Geragotelis

Once a week, my guest blogger (who shall remain nameless...okay, not nameless...let's call her Ms. Sassy Pants. Sassy for short) stops by to share all the things in her life that deserve a big, fat DELETE. Anyhoo, her majesty is back and this week she's trying to imagine a life without chocolate. HINT: It's not pretty. Check out what she had to say and then come up with a few DELETES of your own.

After awakening from my food-induced coma last weekend, which was a direct result of my massive consumption of chocolate (yes, I was one of those bitches shoving my face with chocolates while thinking about that "perfect" relationship), I thought to myself, what would my life be like without chocolate? So here is a brief peek into what my life would be like without my soul's companion.

I would be really skinny...sounds good right? Wrong. Ever run into a starving animal? Vicious I tell you. DELETE!

PMS gone wild, add quick wit and intellect...be afraid, very afraid. DELETE!

Lying in bed for days as a result of boys behaving badly. It would be a huge injustice to rid the world of my delightful presence. DELETE!

Crying all the time as a result of the PMS gone wild and boys behaving badly. All of my anger and despair would cause the development of premature worry lines and wrinkles. Hot? Not. DELETE!

Picture a crazy raving witch. Sweating, delirious, hair all askew in an old nighty. Sound like something out of a horror movie? No, that's just me, on a good day, when I'm off of chocolate. DELETE!

As much as I hate to admit it, chocolate has been a life saver in times of need. Comforted me when all hope was lost, kept me from getting wrinkles for the love of Pete! So just like all of my relationships...this love/hate affair will carry on.

Life's a Witch--Chapter 8

by Brittany Geragotelis

Hey all!

So sorry I've been slacking on the blog this week, but things have been absolutely insane at work. I've been staying up until about 3AM every night doing stuff for deadline, and writing--of all kinds--has taken a bit of a back-seat. BUT that doesn't mean I'm not publishing another chapter in Life's a Witch (thank God I've been working in advance)!

So, here it is for your viewing pleasure!

Enjoy!

Check out my interview!

by Brittany Geragotelis

Hi all!

Sorry for the internet silence over the past week or so. Things have been crazy-busy at work and I had to go to Disney World for 5 days on business and just got back to a 4-week deadline. AND I managed to bring a cold back with me to NYC! Ugh.

Anyway, a few days ago, I was approached by another Wattpad writer who asked me if she could interview me for an interview compilation section she has on the site. Interested in seeing what it's like to be on the other end of the interview, I said yes....and then spent 3 hours answering her questions!

I had a lot of fun doing it and think it might be interesting to those who don't know me very well (and maybe even to those who do know me!). So, check it out here and prepare to be dazzled!

DELETE--Who shot Cupid?

by Brittany Geragotelis

Once a week, my guest blogger (who shall remain nameless...okay, not nameless...let's call her Ms. Sassy Pants. Sassy for short) stops by to share all the things in her life that deserve a big, fat DELETE. Anyhoo, her majesty is back and this week she's got beef with good, ole Cupid. Check out what she had to say and then come up with a few DELETES of your own.
Ah Valentine's Day. The dreaded holiday of all singletons. Or as I like to call it: You're a Loser if You're Not in a Relationship Day. You just can't get away from it. It's a constant kick in the face; everywhere I turn, there it is. From my doorman asking me, "why don't you have a boyfriend?" to the numerous New York Times articles outlining how difficult it is for women to find love in the City. Apparently there are over 100,000 more single women in NYC than men. Why don't you just kill me now? Apparently, I'm going to have to move to Alaska to find a soulmate. For the love! So my ladies...I'm sure you know where this is going. Valentine's Day...DELETE!
Here are just a few of the cliche's that need to be DELETED around this bullshit holiday:
Boxes of chocolates. Really? The only people eating those chocolates are the single girls who are at home alone watching rom-coms and getting fatter by the minute...DELETE!
Getting flowers at the office. Any woman who displays flowers sent by admirers today should be stoned--publicly--and then have her pretty petals taken away. Period. DELETE!
Romantic candlelit dinners. I can't see the bleepin menu because of the dim lights. And by the way...a few open flames and a hot meal doesn't mean you're getting laid. DELETE!
Getting engaged. Oh wow, how original. Getting engaged on Valentine's Day. That's SOOOOO romantic. DELETE!
Gaggles of single bitches going out to celebrate being single. Oh please! You look desperate and pathetic. And we all know you're really going out to troll for men, so enough already. Go home and eat some chocolates. From a box. DELETE!
And on that note, I'm off to kick some cupid ass and break some arrows. Until next week...

Line Dancing and Breakup Joints

by Brittany Geragotelis

You'd think that it would be easy to find a place in NYC that serves great BBQ and offers a night of line-dancing....I mean, it's New York City for God-sakes! The place that has something for everyone—and the weirder the better. So why was I practically pulling my hair out after starting my search for a venue for my friend Tammy's B-day party?

Anyway, as I was trolling the listings for southern BBQ places to see if they offered any kind of country dancing night, I was also perusing the comments from patrons for each place I looked at. Most were the standard, "This place sucks," or "My favorite restaurant in the city," but then I stumbled upon this gem for a joint called Rodeo Bar:

Perfect

by DLover

If you're looking to take someone to a crowded bar to get them drunk and then break up with them this place is perfect. Sip some beers and eat some free peanuts while you try and work things out, even though you know its over—If you're lucky, therell be some depressing country song playing in the background which can add to the overall experience.
  • Pros: Free Nuts in your mouth
  • Cons: Not enough napkins

Hmmm, maybe we'll check this place out after all....

DELETE--Breakup B!tch!

by Brittany Geragotelis

Once a week, my guest blogger (who shall remain nameless...okay, not nameless...let's call her
Ms. Sassy Pants. Sassy for short) stops by to share all the things in her life that deserve a big, fat DELETE. Anyhoo, her majesty is back and this week, she's dealing with a break-up. Check out what she had to say and then come up with a few DELETES of your own.

Happy Birthday to me...Happy Birthday to me...Haaaapppyyyyyy Birrrrrttthhhhday Ms. blah blah blah. Birthdays...one word DELETE. As far as I'm concerned, once you're past the age of 21, they really don't mean much. And once you're over the age of thirty, we just celebrate the 1st, 2nd or 3rd anniversary of our 30th birthday...or at least that's what I do.

Of course there are presents and those are worth mentioning. However, after this birthday, the plan is to stock up on cats and settle in with some moth balls and knitting needles, because it's official...I'm another year older, and newly single in NYC, which in my book, is a death sentence.

So yes, I said it kiddies: I'm single. The super hot boyfriend is no more and as a birthday present to myself, I kicked him to the curb. Why you ask? Well let's just take a look at the list of reasons why he had to be DELETED.

Going radio silent for days on end. DELETE.

Dating—or should I say, warehousing—other women, just to keep his options open. I'm an only child, buddy, and don't like to share. DELETE.

Calling—oh I'm sorry, texting—the night of our scheduled birthday dinner celebration and canceling because he supposedly broke his nose playing basketball. Can't take me out, but still managed to finish your game? DELETE.

Lying about said injury (because you know he was). Or lying period. DELETE.

He's over 30 and still lives at home. DELETE.

He's over 30 and can't quite hold down a job and is currently unemployed. DELETE.

His primary choice of communication is text and he seems to have an aversion to picking up the phone and talking to a real person. DELETE.

He never kept his promises or even followed through with the simplest of plans. DELETE.

He stood me up on more than one occasion. I just attributed it to him being a bit flaky. I might have been blinded by his supreme hotness and height—now I realize he's just a double-sized douche. DELETE.

So note to self...hotness does not equal greatness. Most likely, after this go around, I'll be taking a sabbatical from dating. However, when I hit the scene again, I'm sure I'll have plenty of new material for you.

Could I be a surfer girl?

by Brittany Geragotelis

After watching the totally awesome movie, Blue Crush, I fell in love with the idea of surfing. Of course it's now several years later, and I still haven't followed through with my vow to learn how to surf....although I haven't taken it off my bucket list yet.

Well, I just found out that Blue Crush 2 is coming out later this year, and I was fortunate enough to be able to meet with a few of the stars of the movie today (Thanks Michelle—You're the best!)! After being treated to an exclusive look at the trailer, not only did I fall in love with the waves all over again, but I'm now officially loving actresses Sasha Jackson ("One Tree Hill"), Elizabeth Mathis (Tron) and Roxy pro surfer girl Rosy Hodge. All three girls were so friendly, lively and have I mentioned gorgeous? I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the sequel to the Kate Bosworth water drama and can't wait to see it when it comes out on DVD later this year. A hint on what you can expect? Incredible surfing (they had a whole team of Roxy girls on-hand for the surfing shots), beautiful locations (they shot in South Africa), talented young ladies (girl power!) and hot, hot, HOT boys (Um, HELLO, Chris Fisher)!

So, grab your sunblock, pick up your remote and try not to get burned by how hot this movie's going to be!

Interview with writer Jordan Lynde

by Brittany Geragotelis

photos courtesy of Jordan Lynde
So, as you know, I'm publishing my latest book, Life's a Witch, on the online community writing site, Wattpad. Well, while I've been on there, I've had a chance to check out some of the other writers on the site and one in particular has blown me away. Jordan Lynde, wattpad user name XxSkater2Girl16xX, has had more than 12 million people read her books collectively. This in itself is a huge feat, considering it's tough to find many published authors with a following like this. But Jordan's only 16-years-old!
Read on for more about this amazing teenager and how she became an online writing sensation!

Brittany: You’re one of Wattpad’s star authors! What’s been your reaction to the fact that you’ve had over 6 million people read one of your books? Were you expecting that many people to read your stuff?
Jordan: It’s pretty staggering! I remember when I was excited that I’d reached 100 views. When it reached 1 million, I was blown away. Now it’s at 6 million and still climbing—it’s crazy! To be completely honest, I wasn’t expecting that many people to read my stuff, but I figured at least some would—I had a little confidence in myself after all. But I never would’ve guessed I’d reach millions of people!

Brittany: What’s your writing process like? When do you write, how often, where, anything you have to have around you when you write?
Jordan: As I mentioned earlier, I like to write at night. All my best ideas form between the hours of 8:00PM to 3:00AM. I write at least four hours every day, unless I’m with my friends. Usually I have to have something on in the background—my television, music, a fan—there just has to be some sort of noise. Usually I’m in my room. I have to be alone to write. And I also write better when I’m chewing gum. Ha!

Brittany: What made you decide to join Wattpad? What’s been your experience on there so far?
Jordan: A fan from another website I write on, Quizilla, messaged me one day telling me to check out Wattpad, so I did. Joining the site was definitely one of the best choices I’ve ever made. The layout is very professional, organized, and easy on the eye, which makes it attractive to people like me. You can search stories by genres and keywords, and you can also check out the “What’s Hot” list if you’re looking for something that everyone’s reading. The best thing though, is that they have actual people running it—keeping the site free from copyright and offensive messages. It’s really the best writing website out there and I just had to join. Without Wattpad, I would’ve never gotten as much feedback as I do on my stories, nor have reached such a high number of fans and views. Some of my stories probably wouldn’t even exist without Wattpad.

Brittany: Are there any authors/books on the site that you’re a fan of? Who are some of your favorite authors in general?
Jordan: I am an extremely picky reader and I don’t have much time for reading between writing, school, friends and work, so I’m not really a fan of a lot of authors on Wattpad. However, there are a few I am a fan of. One of them is you—BrittTheBookSlayer. You recently started an amazing story, Life’s A Witch, about modern-day witches and it’s awesome so far—very unique and original!
Another author from Wattpad that I’m a fan of is YvetteRussell. She has multiple finished stories and they’re all amazing. She focuses on paranormal stories—one of my favorite genres. The story I like most of hers is The Psychic Next Door. As far as published authors, my favorite series is Harry Potter. I'm a complete nerd for HP. I’m also a huge fan of Stephen King…have been ever since I read The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon in sixth grade.

Brittany: You recently uploaded your latest story, A Surreptitious Relationship, which is a sequel to your most popular book, A Proscriptive Relationship, and already you’ve have 180,000 reads! What’s the secret to creating such a loyal readership?
Jordan: Well, for the building of my fan base, I try to write stories in many different genres so I could reel in all types of fans. If they like my work, then they’ll tell their friends, who tell their friends, and so on. And hopefully they’ll want to read more of my stuff, even if it isn’t exactly what they’re interested in. Sadly, I don’t have a secret for a loyal readership. Ha! If I did, I’d definitely let everyone know. I just have amazing fans who can’t get enough of the complex relationship between my characters, Chris and Holly.

Brittany: Besides writing, what else do you love to do?
Jordan: I really love playing the piano, even though I can’t read sheet music. I usually just play by ear or watch videos on YouTube and copy people’s hand movements. That actually works really well! During the summer I spend hours playing badminton with my friends or hanging out downtown. I also like playing soccer and basketball!

Brittany: Can you give me a few fun facts about yourself that people might not know?
Jordan: Sure! I’m a huge animal lover. I’ve also been taking Spanish for five years and I hope to be fluent at some point. I’m obsessed with music and penguins. Many of the characters in my books are based on my friends. The character Jeremy in APR is my friend in real life. Oh, and everyone always asks me if I’ve had a crush on my teacher (APR is a story about an complicated relationship between a student and her teacher). And no, I’ve never had a crush on a teacher. Ever.
Thanks so much, Jordan! And if you haven’t already, be sure to check Jordan’s work out at wattpad today!
5x5,
B.
