Books that are more satisfying than celebrating Valentine's Day

by Brittany Geragotelis

Whether you’re coupled up or flying solo this V-day your mind is no doubt on love this time of the year. What I’ve found though, is that the reality of “Valentine’s Day,” rarely lives up to your expectations.

And why should we put so much weight on one day anyway? If you’re not in a relationship on February 14th, you’re annoyingly reminded of the fact. And if you are dating someone, the real question should be: is your significant other showing you they love you the other 364 days of the year?

Either way, there are better ways to spend your V-day than trying to prove to yourself and others that you’re loved no matter your status.

That’s why this V-day I propose showing your love…for books.

Here’s my list of novels that are far more satisfying than celebrating Valentine’s Day:

cozy up with: SIZE 12 IS NOT FAT by Meg Cabot
Besides being my favorite book series in the history of this world, genius author Meg Cabot weaves an entertaining tale of a former pop star whose long-since left the spotlight and now works in the dorm of a NY college. When one of Heather Wells’ residents is murdered, she takes it upon herself to figure out whodunit. Think Bridget Jones meets Nancy Drew, with a really catchy soundtrack.

hungrily devour: ROT & RUIN by Jonathan Mayberry
In this post-apocalyptic world, the undead has taken over, leaving the living in the minority. The last thing teenage survivor Benny Imura wants to do is follow in his brother’s footsteps and “quiet” zombies. But as he makes his way out into the Rot & Ruin, he quickly realizes there are worse role models to have than his big bro.

grab some wine and drink in: DRINKING & TWEETING by Brandi Glanville
“Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Brandi Glanville is telling all in this tongue-in-cheek memoir of her marriage with actor & playboy Eddie Cibrian, and how she survived one of the most public break-ups in Hollywood.

snuggle up with: KISS & SELL by Brittany Geragotelis
What’s a girl to do when she hasn’t gotten her first kiss yet and it seems like everyone else around her has? Well, she and her friends decide to sell it on eBay, of course! Grow nostalgic for your own firsts as you experience this teen’s journey to finding first love.

spend some time with: CRIMINAL by Terra Elan McVoy
Inspired by the headlines, author Terra McVoy investigates how far some people are willing to go for the ones that they love. Hint: sometimes they go too far. Like the teenager in this book who helps her boyfriend kill the father of his other girlfriend. Yep, you read that right. Love triangle AND murder? Sometimes love is seriously messed up.

lose yourself in: HOURGLASS by Myra McEntire
Beyond the stunningly mesmerizing cover, there’s so much to adore about this tale of forbidden love, loss and longing. From the perfectly described southern surroundings to the gorgeous guys to the love story that teases you until the very end, author Myra McEntire will make you wish time would slow down so you could finish this book all at once.

spend a spell with: THE WITCH IS BACK by Brittany Geragotelis
In the exciting sequel to the magical novel, LIFE’S A WITCH, Hadley Bishop goes off to a witchy summer intensive with her boyfriend and coven members, after the promise of fun in the sun and spells galore. Instead, she gets run-ins with her boyfriends’ ex, an angry rogue witch in the woods and dangerous pranksters with their sights set on her.
