3 million reads, free books and my book trailer!

by Brittany Geragotelis

Hey all! Lots to catch you up on this Friday! First off, this week I reached 3 million reads of Life's a Witch on Wattpad! I can't even begin to describe how this makes me feel...but I'll try: elated, blessed, honored, exuberant, joyous, excited, proud....well, you get the idea. I never could have predicted that people would latch on to this book the way they have. Sure, I hoped people would enjoy it, but I wasn't expecting this kind of a response. It's truly reinvigorated my feelings on writing. I have the best fans EVER!

So, as a thank you to everyone who logs on every weekend to see what's going on in Hadley's life, here are a few goodies for you. Because I know how much some of you are obsessed with The Salem Witch Trials and Life's a Witch, I've decided to film my book trailer this weekend. And guess where? Yep, good ole' Salem, MA! I've got the whole thing scripted out and my very talented and gorgeous friend, Alicia Chouinard, is going to be playing the part of Hadley. I knew it was only a matter of time before Alicia ended up the star of something I wrote...she's read every one of the books I've written! Anyways, while we're there shooting the trailer, we're going to be taking video, doing interviews with a few of the ancestors of the accused and putting together a sort of documentary of the trip. It should be a lot of fun!

And now, the real surprise...

I'm giving away free books to five lucky fans!

I know how expensive books can be and I'm all about encouraging reading, so I'll be sending out a total of 25 brand new books to winners! Here's what you have to do:

1. Fan me on Facebook and Wattpad (if you're already a fan in both places, encourage a friend to fan me on both and you're in!)
2. After you're a fan, e-mail me at thebookslayer@gmail.com with the subject line: Give me my books! Leave your name, age, address, e-mail address and the name of your favorite book.
3. I'll pick five winners at random and each will be sent five YA books to the address provided.

Thanks again for all your continued support and can't wait to hear what you think of my book trailer!

B.

The Riddler

by Brittany Geragotelis

Do you think like a third grader?
No, I'm not talking in the, "I know you are, but what am I?" or "Boys have cooties!" kind of way (but since I brought it up, I'm awesome and boys totally have cooties!). I'm talking about a child's ability to think simply without "intelligence" and "logic" getting in the way. In other words, adults can be too smart for their own good sometimes.

Here are 11 simple riddles with simple answers. Now, think like a third grader and take a wild guess. The person with the most correct answers will win an awesome prize pack. Just e-mail your answers to thebookslayer@gmail.com by the end of the day on Friday, Sept 17th, and I will post the correct answers in Saturday's post.

Good luck!

1. How could the 22nd and 24th U.S. Presidents have the same parents, but weren't brothers?
2. How can you use the letters in NEW DOOR to make one word?
3. There was an airplane crash, every single person died, but two people survived. How is this possible?
4. How could all of your cousins have an aunt who is not your aunt?
5. How far can you walk into the woods?

9. Imagine you are in a sinking rowboat surrounded by sharks. How would you survive?
10. "That attorney is my brother," testified the accountant. But the attorney testified that he didn't have a brother. Who's lying?

And the real doozie:

A father and a son are in a car accident. The father dies instantly. The boy, in critical condition, is rushed to the nearest hospital for emergency surgery. The surgeon looks at the child aghast and says, "I can't operate on him—he's my son!" How could this be?

An awesome guest blogger and a contest

by Brittany Geragotelis

Professional Wingman
I heard back from the Professional Wingman (check him out to the left), a sort of dating guru I wrote about in a previous blog. Apparently he was psyched to be mentioned in my blog and has agreed to answer a few questions about love, romance and where to meet "the one." Stay tuned for his interview in an upcoming blog!

And because it's Friday and the beginning of a fun, extra-long weekend, I thought we'd start the break with a contest! So, take a look at the picture below and come up with the best caption for it. Then leave it along with your name in the comments section above. The person with the funniest/most clever caption will win an ARC of my choice. The winner will also get a book per points earned for the following (be sure to list any extra points you qualify for):
If you're a new follower=+1
If you're already a follower=+1

For being the person referred=+2

Fun Facts Friday & a Giveaway!

by Brittany Geragotelis

There's a whole lot of fun facts out there this week and since it's Friday, I thought I'd share a few of them with you:

1. Apparently Pope Benedict XVI has written a children's book called, "The Friends of Jesus." Wonder what that book blurb's going to be like.

2. Well-known and successful book agent Andrew Wylie really pissed off publishers (one in particular--rhymes with Shmandom Shmouse) recently by forming his own e-publishing company for his clients and partnering up with Amazon to do it. I can't decide if he was being really ballsy or just being a dick.

3. It could take you a long time to be published--like nearly a century. At least that was Elizabeth Trahan's experience as she was finally published in Country Magazine at the age of 92.

4. Speaking of age and circumstance, this 87 year old retired man received a laptop and decided to write a novel at the age of 80. Seven years later, he has a popular series including five books (and another on the way) and his novels have been optioned for a TV series. Maybe some things do get better with age!

5. Multi-million dollar book deals do still exist. No, really. They do!

Now, let's see how much trivia you really know. Answer the questions below and you could win an arc of the new book, Matched, which is already gaining a lot of buzz in the publishing world (and received a pretty hefty advance). Leave your name and answers in the comments section above. Each correct answer will receive 1 point. Extra points for the following:

1. When naming Edward in Twilight, Stephenie Meyer wanted a name that was both traditional and romantic. Which two literary romantic heroes did Stephanie most likely use as inspiration for the old-school vamp?

2. How did Stephenie come up with the name Bella?

3. How did the Volturi get their name?

A Cool Video and book giveaways!

by Brittany Geragotelis

Hey all! So, this came out a few weeks ago, but I was just watching it again (because I insisted that my boyfriend watch it. Then I insisted he help me make a music video of my own, since his background is in film, he's already produced two feature-lengths and his job requires him to make and get people to watch various YouTube videos. Makes sense that he'd want to help me, too, right?) and figured if by some off chance you hadn't already seen it, you should.

Anyway, there are two reasons why I LOVE this video. The first is that it was made by the author of one of my favorite books of the year, Sisters Red. Jackson Pearce is talented, creative and an inspiring author (Don't believe me, check out my interview with her here), so I'm pretty sure I'd love anything she produced. But the second reason I love this is because she remade a music video as a way to combat writer's block. And man, can the girl move!

Love. It.

How awesome was that? You know what else is awesome? The fact that I'm doing a book giveaway! I have a bunch of ARCs of cool, upcoming books that I'd love to pass on to you! So, here's what we're going to do. Leave your name in the comments below (above, wherever), along with the appropriate points you've earned. Your name will go into a hat according to how many points you've got (in other words, your odds of winning go up, the more points you have), and winners will be chosen at random.
