Hot Tub Time Machine

Last night, Matt's family all decided to go and see Hot Tub Time Machine. I honestly had no desire to see this movie whatsoever...it just looked, well, kind of stupid. Whenever the commercials would come on, I thought, "How do these movies get made?". But everyone was going, so I sucked it up and went along.

And I was shocked to find that the movie was actually really good! First off, the cast was such a miss-matched group of actors. John Cusack and Craig Robinson (Darryl from "The Office") are an unlikely pair, but they actually work well together in this ensemble comedy. The movie's about three middle-aged men who are all relatively unhappy with where their lives have gone. After one fails at committing suicide Cusack and Robinson decide it's time to head back to a ski resort they enjoyed back in their glory days. When they arrive, they get wasted in their hot tub and are sent back to 1986.

The movie itself was actually very funny, and the script was clever and ripe with great one-liners. There are plenty of gross-out scenes (throwing up, fork in the eye, arms being severed), and a little nudity for the teenage boy crowd. But my favorite part of the movie was the soundtrack and the wardrobe. Whoever got to handle the music and clothes for the movie were in for a treat. It was like going back to my own childhood. All the music I grew up listening to was in there. Gotta love "Jesse's Girl." And the clothes...well, let's just say there was a LOT of color going on! So fun!

So, if you haven't gone and seen it yet, head out to the movies. It's totally worth the $10 to see it. If not just for the music:

"Louder Than A Bomb" by Public Enemy
"Perfect Way" by Scritti Politti
"The Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats
"What You Need" by Inxs
"Modern Love" by David Bowie
"I Will Dare" by The Replacements
"Push It" by Salt N Pepa
"Bring On The Dancing Horses" by Echo & The Bunnymen
"Save It For Later" by The Beat/The English Beat
"True" by Spandau Ballet
"Jessie's Girl" by Craig Robinson
"Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order
"Once In A Lifetime" by Talking Heads
"Home Sweet Home" by Motley Crue
"Let's Get It Started" by Craig Robinson

5x5,
B.
